Here Father Flye inscribes the book to a correspondent, to whom he has also sent the two included manuscript fragments in Agee's hand, which he describes as stray page of something to be used in A Death in the Family. The author's extremely fine handwriting in pencil is mentioned in Father Flye's introduction to the book: he used a well-sharpened pencil, and developed a very small handwriting which made reading a slow and at times a trying and well-nigh baffling task.
