Written on New Year's Day 1924, the king comments that he has been suffering from "an attack of sciatica which comes on at night & makes sleep impossible". He then gives Legge an update on his shooting pursuits, which have been curtailed by the weather.I have only been able to get 1 1/2 days shooting here since Xmas. There are no wild fowl in at all this year so the marshes were no use. We have killed a certain number of woodcock, and I have had a good many 30s. " He adds: "Our large family party is now breaking up, my sister & mother in law leave on Saturday for Norway, all my sons will have gone by Thursday. " He ends "With renewed good wishes to you both. Believe me very sincerely Yrs, " and signs off with his royal cipher "G.
